ONL management announces official band breakup

NO SEAT AFFAIR, the management of Orange And Lemons (OnL), sent an email to friends of the band, including key media and sponsorship partners, announcing the band's official break-up. Bong Baluyot, OnL band manager, states that the band parted ways last September 29, 2007. Indie Culture received the announcement last Oct. 5, 2007 Friday, and confirmation from key persons involved with the band. Orange And Lemons had been one of the most successful bands in the Philippines.

Prior to this announcement, news of internal differences in the band had already circulated, and had confirmed, in fact, as going on a few months earlier. However, there was no word about the band's future at the time. Following their formal break-up, Universal Records, the band’s record label, accepted and approved the resignation last month.

Emm Gryner - Asian Blue
LAST NIGHT I had an absurd dream. I found myself outside a small and modest shanty by the countryside. All was quiet except for the faint sound of a guitar and piano coming from within. As I walked in, I found myself alongside some of the most revered female personalities in music: Janis Ian and Joni Mitchell were by the fireplace strumming their guitars, Tori Amos was playing the piano all by her lonesome, and singing along were Sarah McLachlan, Kate Bush and a few other notable female singer-songwriters. All was good and fun, until…

Pressed CD's versus D.I.Y.'s
by Ian Zafra

T
he emergence of compact disc (CD) writers and writeable CDs in the market opened new doors for indie bands.  At a time when a home cassette recorder was the other option, a CD writer became a good investment for bands who strived to sell their own music.  This breakthrough in digital technology made replication of music easier, faster, and more convenient.

The affordability of this technology ushered a surging new trend in the local music scene—that of making and selling your own CDs.  With replication made easy, more and more bands started burning their own music and selling these “homemade” CDs or “DIYs” (Do-It-Yourself CDs) themselves.

10 Ways To Make Your Project More Attractive To Sponsors

by Jeremy Rwakaara

In today’s unpredictable economy, it’s not just the major labels that are having a hard time selling records and filling concert venues. Most independent/unsigned artists struggle to get rid of the boxes of shrink-wrapped CD’s stashed in their basement/garage/spare room, and most of their tours make very little money.

Many artists acknowledge that the main problem standing in the way of success is a general lack of funds. At the same time, many businesses are beginning to discover that consumers are becoming harder to reach using traditional advertising/marketing techniques. An often overlooked solution to the problem is sponsorship.
